As you explained last week, sometimes poetry gets a bad rap. For whatever reason, some people don't embrace it. Why do you think that is? What can we do about it?
I think poetry sometimes gets a bad rep because of the fact that most people automatically assume that poetry is boring and dull to read and write. To change this we can create poems that are both interesting and fun to read and interesting to the eye (this draws them in even before they read it).
I think many people don't like poetry because it can be hard to understand at times, its usually not straight forward. I also think that poetry has a cliche of being boring and corny. I don't think we have to force people to like poetry, but maybe we could demonstrate some more interesting forms of poetry?
I think people do not like poetry because they think you can only write poetry for school or if you are dr. seuss, but it is only ok to write it if you feel it, otherwise you can not.
A lot of times when writing poems, you have to say your feelings. A lot of people don't like to say their emotions. Also, some people like a beginning, middle, and end like in a book. Poems usually don't have that. We can change their feelings. Poems don't have to be based on their feelings. You can write a poem about something you saw or a event in time. For the other problem, there are poems that have a story, so you can have a poem with a beginning, middle, and end.
I think that most people don't like poetry because of the way it was taught in school. You would over analyze beyond the meaning of the poem and most of the time come away with a meaning that was completely different from what the author intended. It also is really monotonous and boring.
I think it gets a bad REP because most people think that poems always have to be long and really deep and they feel that its extremely boring. Something we could do to change that is to show the different kinds of poetry and different forms of it.
People think poetry is a hassle. It is something you will eventually have to do at least once in your lifetime. To be honest, I used to find poetry boring and unimportant.
I think asking people to write poetry is the worst thing to do. I think acknowledging that some people dislike poetry is the first step in allowing people to open their selves to the world of poetry. Ask people to look up bad poems and that will encourage them to keep on reading and maybe even writing...
I think that poetry receives a bad rap because people have trouble expressing their thoughts in writing. I think that similarly to drawing, people initially say that they can't draw however in reality everyone can draw just some people are more natural at it. I think that everyone has the potential to write a meaningful poem however some people have difficultly finding the right words to say it.
I think some people don't like poetry for a couple of reasons. First of all, some people do not take enough time to find a poem they like, or even think about it! Many people do not read enough, and struggle with symbolism. Others, such as me, think that SOME old and long poems are boring or dull. We can encourage them to find some funny poems, or types that interest them. Also, we can ask those people to test out poetry by writing short poems about what they enjoy, or give them something to write about so it narrows down your thoughts.
You must keep open minded and full of emotions while writing poetry.
I think that people generally don't like poetry because they assume that it will be dull and uninteresting. This is because much traditional poetry tends to have many poetic devices that many people have trouble with. We could solve the problem by showing people that there are many different kinds of poems, and many poems that are about things that they would be interested in.
The reason in poetry having such a bad reputation in my opinion is because no one really takes the time to read poems and get the true message behind what the poem is trying to say. Most people when reading poems just skim through them and they decide they don't like the poem because they do not know what is going on. As of myself, I know most of the times I read poems I tend to not understand most of the vocabulary which causes me to miss out on the whole idea and message of the poem. What I think people do not think about is that song lyrics are poems and everyone likes those. To help prevent the bad mindset of poems, we can search for interesting poems that are straight forward and appropriate for our age.
